Sydney Opera House Named a World Heritage Site

The Sydney Opera house has always been synonymous with Australian Culture. Now our Iconic landmark has been declared not only a World Heritage Site but a masterpiece of 20th century architecture!
The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organizations World Heritage Committee have described the Opera House as being unparalleled in both design and construction. Stating that ‘it is a daring and visionary experiment that has had an enduring influence on the emergent architecture of the 20th Century’
The Sydney Opera House, designed by Joern Utzon, one of only two living architects to be recognized by the World Heritage committee, was officially opened in 1973 and is the youngest building to be included in the World Heritage List. The unanimous vote by UNESCO’s 21 member committee has placed the Sydney Opera House along side the likes of the Taj Mahal, Egyption Pyramids, the Statue of Liberty and the Great Wall of China.
The Opera House is already visited by an estimated 4.5 million peaple each year, 1.5 million of which attend performances within the awe inspiring building. This new credential placing Australia’s most famous landmark amongst the great structures of the world is sure to see tourism boom even further.
The Sydney Opera House is an emblem of Sydney and an Icon of Australia, and with its new World Heritage listing the Opera Houses enduring leagacy is being recognized aroudn the world, truly an amazing building that simply must be seen!

Designing Destiny
