UQ has an extensive range of sporting facilities including an athletics centre, tennis courts, an Olympic-standard swimming pool, a beach volleyball court, netball courts, a three-level gymnasium, as well as sporting ovals that cater for cricket, hockey, softball, and all football codes. Students can also take advantage of short recreational courses in dance, holistic health, martial arts and sports coaching.

UQ provides many opportunities for students to meet other students. More than 130 clubs and societies have been formed by people with a wide range of interests, hobbies and backgrounds and contribute to the colour and diversity of UQ campus life.

A range of cultural activities are available on-campus, with music concerts, various museum collections, art galleries, theatre, dances, debates, barbeques and Market Days offered to help students enjoy campus life.

UQ offers a multi-faith Chaplaincy Service and a variety of facilities for UQ students. Many faiths are practised and respected in Brisbane, which has facilities and places of worship for Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic and major religious groups.
