Swinburne Aviation (within the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences)
Today’s increasingly complex Air Transport Industry offers careers in both flying and non-flying areas. Potential employers include airlines, other aircraft operators, airports, government regulatory and safety authorities and air-service providers.
Swinburne offers various flying and non-flying programs and short courses. In addition to the Undergraduate and TAFE programs in Aviation and Air Transportation Management, Swinburne Aviation has developed, in conjunction with the Aviation Industry and leading researchers, a range of Distance Education programs. Postgraduate, Masters and PhD programs are also available.
During the course development the guiding principles of safety, legality and compliance, and business profitability were at the fore, making graduates of Swinburne's Aviation programs an asset to the industry and their employers' business.
The Postgraduate programs have been designed primarily to meet the needs of personnel employed, or seeking to be employed, within the flight and ground operations areas of the Aviation Industry. The entry requirements for these programs are flexible with consideration given to industry experience as an alternative to appropriate tertiary qualifications.
Courses include:
Bachelor of Technology (Aviation)

The aim of the course is to prepare students for careers in the aviation industry as professional pilots. Skill training and education processes are weighted equally in the course where there is a need to provide a high level of both flying prowess and the ability to solve problems through the application of methodical and rational thinking. High-quality Commercial Pilot Licence training is augmented with educational topics designed to provide an optimum balance between the range of areas required by today’s professional pilots
Bachelor of Technology (Air Transportation Management)
The aim of this course is to provide an alternative non-flying degree to the Bachelor of Technology (Aviation) course and to prepare students for professional careers in the air transportation industry.
Both of these courses can be combined with Bachelor of Business.
