Swinburne University of Technology has been educating students for almost 100 years. In fact, if you join us in 2008 you can take part in our centenary celebrations!

We are a career-oriented institution, where you can gain real-world experience through practical courses. Swinburne has grown into a multi-discipline, multi-campus institution, with six campuses in Melbourne, Australia and one in Sarawak, Malaysia. The total student population of 22,600 includes 5,500 international students from around the world.

A Truly International University
Swinburne is the only university in Australia invited to become a member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU). The ECIU aims to foster student and staff mobility and share innovative programs to give students a competitive edge in today’s global employment market.
In 2006, the Northeastern Study Centre was set up at Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus, under a landmark agreement between Swinburne and NortheasternUniversity (Boston, USA) to offer combined courses.

A mild climate, affordable living costs, an extensive public transport network and an abundance of parkland and public space combine to provide a great way of life.
Campus Locations
Swinburne University of Technology’s Hawthorn and Prahran campuses are located in two prestigious inner-city suburbs, around seven kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD. Both offer a shopping district next to the campuses with shops, supermarkets and an array of multicultural cuisine. A large network of public transport covers these campuses, offering a range of train, tram and bus services.
The Lilydale campus offers a beautiful natural setting and is located at the tip of the beautiful YarraValley, Melbourne’s premier wine-making region. Croydon and Wantirna are located in Melbourne’s outer Eastern suburbs and provide a more unique experience for international students who wish to experience a smaller, cohesive campus. These campuses are located within Melbourne’s train and bus network.
Student Support & Facilities
Swinburne students have access to excellent facilities include wireless technology, well-equipped laboratories, extensive libraries, health centres, comfortable student accommodation, cafés, sporting facilities and a range of special interest clubs. All campuses have easy access to transport, shops and entertainment venues.

Accommodation
At Swinburne, we offer various accommodation options such as on-campus apartments, homestay and private rental. On-campus accommodation options include the brand new UniLodge @ Swinburne Place apartments at the Hawthorn campus, The Residential College (Hawthorn) and the luxurious LilydaleStudentVillage looking over the beautiful Lillydale lake. Prahran students can live at the Hawthorn campus and commute by train (30 minutes).
Activities
There is so much more to studying in Australia than just being in the classroom, which is why Swinburne International organises affordable daytrips and activities for our international students. Trips to popular tourist destinations are run most weekends during the teaching period. In 2006 students visited some of the world’s best surf spots along the Great Ocean Road, the home of the famous Penguin Parade at PhillipIsland, as well as tours to the Australian outback and even a tour around the famous MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground).
