Queensland University of Technology - Student Case Study
Maxine Whitbread (England)
University Diploma in Information Technology
“I came to QUT International College as a mature student, with my husband. We

knew nothing about IT but the lecturers and staff were extremely helpful and supportive throughout our diplomas, enabling us to pass with good grades. Despite there being quite an age difference between ourselves and other students, I feel that because the classes are generally smaller than those held in the University, it was easier to make friends with students of all ages. I also found that the friendships formed have continued as everyone helps each other through the degree. AttendingQUTInternationalCollege has definitely been a highlight of our study experience so far.”
Monica Haldammen (Norway)

Why did you choose to study at QUT?
“I wanted to travel, and was told Brisbane and QUT would be a great choice.”
What do you like best about studying at QUT?
“The environment both on and off campus. We have a great connection between students and staff in our course, and Brisbane is a lovely city.”
Gaurav Jaggi (India)
Bachelor of Biotechnology Innovation (Honours)
Why did you choose to study at QUT?

“The degree offered at QUT was more practically oriented than any other undergraduate science degree. It provided a much broader spectrum of knowledge in biotechnology than any other degree at that time. This unique degree was designed to provide an understading about different issues involved in biotechnologhy such as intellectual property issues and other issues involved with managing business in biotechnology, on top of providing a good base grounding in science. Overall, it provided me more skills in less time.”
Where do you work now?
“I am currently working at the prestigious Medical Research Council (MRC), a UK national organisation which promotes research into all areas of medical and related science with the aim of improving the health and quality of human life.
I am a PhD research scholar and am working on a protein called p53 the defect that causes more than 50% of all human cancers.”
How did QUT prepare you for this?
“Apart from giving me a solid grounding in biotechnology, it taught me skills to handle many different things at the same time.”
