Murdoch University - Study Abroad and Exchange

The North West Excursion will be the highlight for many of you who decide to come to Murdoch. It is a fun-filled bus trip to the rugged North West of Western Australia. It covers close to 4,000 kms, or 2,500 miles, across plains of wild flowers and the vast outcrop that is outback Australia.

This country, called the Pilbara, is rugged, hot and dusty yet will mesmerize you with its beauty and splendour.

The mountainous outcrops are the oldest on earth and they will stare at you in total silence and majesty. The region also houses some of our most hardy fauna and flora. You will come across the shy rock wallaby, the perenti lizard, the grey and the red kangaroo and many other unique animals.

You will also have the opportunity to snorkel in our most well known marine park, the Ningaloo Reef, which is also a World Heritage site. Home to as many as 500 species of tropical fish and 200 species of coral, it is 260km in length and runs alongside white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the excursion is Karijini national Park. Hidden amongst western Australia’s mining towns, this area is untouched and pristine in beauty. Very remote in location, you will get a sense of being in the middle of nowhere and at the same time, feel like staying forever.

Many have chosen the Murdoch programme after hearing about the North West Excursion…wouldn’t you?
