New Hospital on Campus – first of its kind in Australia!

The wheels are in motion for a new private hospital to be built on campus at Macquarie.

The AU$80 million project will be opened on campus in 2008 and willbe located in the Macquarie University Research Park.
The hospital will be a technology hospital with an emphasis on patient needs and will deliver cutting edge medicine involving training, medical research and high quality patient care in select specialty areas. The hospital will complement Macquarie University’s existing specialisations including cognitive neuropsychology, telemedicine, teleradiology, speech therapy and audiology.
The opening of the new hospital coincides with the launch of the new degrees from Macquarie’s Australian School of Advanced Medicine which will provide Master degrees that are different to any other medical degree in the world.

Engineering comes to Macquarie

Macquarie University has developed a range of new engineering degrees that will commence next year.

Macquarie’s engineering program focuses on equipping students with the skills and experience to enable them to push boundaries they are challenging, flexible and provide an internationally recognised professional accreditation.”

One of the specialisations offered by Macquarie, Wireless Engineering, is not offered by any other university in Australia.

Macquarie is currently accepting applications for the following Bachelor degree programs for semester one, 2008:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Instrumentation and Control Engineering
  • Telecommunications Engineering
  • Wireless Engineering – this is Unique to Macquarie

New Developments at Macquarie

$17 million Sports and Aquatic Centre

The Centre will feature an outdoor 50 metre FINA compliant competition pool, a 25 metre indoor pool, a gymnasium as well as group fitness, cycling and yoga studios.

The new centre will incorporate the current centre’s facilities which include squash courts, a basketball hall, fully equipped gym, badminton courts and a martial arts hall.

Using innovative environmental designs, the Centre will recycle energy produced by other parts of the University to heat the pools. The indoor pool has been designed to minimize energy use. Storm water collected from the roof will assist irrigation of the sport fields.

The completion of the Centre will establish Macquarie as a leader in the provision of state of the art facilities on campus.

Macquarie University Railway Station

Macquarie University will be the first university to have its own railway station in Australia. The $2.25 billion line will link Macquarie to the north shore and the convenience of the new rail line has prompted a number of large companies like Optus to shift to Macquarie Park and North Ryde and will ultimately bring 6000 workers to the commercial precinct.
