Campuses have excellent sporting facilities, including basketball, netball and tennis courts, ovals squash courts, basketball courts, gymnasiums and a golf course.

There are more than 80 clubs and societies which reflect the social, cultural and sporting interests of students. New students in particular will benefit from joining these associations as they enable them to broaden their non-academic interests, meet other students and become an active part of the University community. Go to www.dusa.org.au for more information.

The ICON Gallery at the Burwood Campus is part of the Deakin’s Museum of Art, and regularly features exhibitions and arts events. Geelong Campus’s Costa Hall is a key venue for cultural events and community functions, while Warrnambool Campus’s coastal location provides ample opportunities for discovering Australia’s bush heritage.

The University is a secular institution, but recognises and encourages students’ rights to free worship. The University Chaplaincy provides a range of services that any student can access, while Deakin’s Islamic Directory contains many useful information for Muslim students.

Campus information

Town/city

Campuses are located in Melbourne, Geelong (two) and Warrnambool.

·Melbourne

The city of Melbourne has a population of 3.5 million. It is exciting, safe, cosmopolitan and a cultural haven. Melbourne is well-known for its music and cultural festivals, quality restaurants, entertainment venues, beautiful parks and gardens, excellent shopping and world-class sporting and recreational facilities.

·Geelong

Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city with a population close to 200,000, less than one hour from the centre of Melbourne. It is known as the gateway to the world-famous Great Ocean Road and some of the best surf beaches in the world. Geelong offers a cosmopolitan way of life. It has all the modern amenities of a larger city, including excellent cafes, restaurants, shopping and recreational facilities, and offers a clean, healthy and relaxed environment in which to live.

·Warrnambool

Warrnambool is the fifth-largest city in the state with a resident population of close to 30,000, which nearly doubles in the summer months as holiday-makers make their way to this premier tourist destination. Whales and maritime history are major attractions at Warrnambool and it is the ideal base for visiting wildlife reserves, forests, farms, waterfalls and one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in the world. Warrnambool offers a truly unique opportunity for international students wanting to experience the ‘real’ Australia.
