Cost of Living
Australia is a very affordable place to live. Deciding to study in Australia involves considering the costs involved. The following information provides some basic guidelines on costs in Australia.
Eating Out

Australia has a wide range of good food available at reasonable prices. A counter meal at the pub will generally cost £4-10, a meal at a café is generally £5-10 and a meal at one of the many multicultural food outlets is generally £2-8, and of course there are also all the standard fast food options such as McDonalds, Burger King, KFC and so forth. A Big Mac or Whopper meal deal here costs around £2.10. Your university will also have food options on campus to cater for a student budget.
Cost of a movie
Australia has a large range of movie houses, including big multi-theatres and smaller independent cinemas. A movie will generally cost from £2-6, less if you produce your student card!
Cost of entrance to a club

Featuring differing forms of entertainment such as local DJ’s, bands and dancing there is a wide variety of night attractions. Depending on the club you can expect to pay approximately £2-10 for entry.
Further entertainment possibilities
On top of all these options, there are also many outdoor recreational activities available due to the weather. These can include picnics in the park, swimming at the beach, exploring the national parks, visiting outdoor markets, and numerous other options. To add to this list, in the summer months there are many outdoor festivals and events taking place, which are both enjoyable, and free!
Public Transport

All of the capital cities have modern transport facilities to get you around and the majority of universities are easily accessible by public transport.
The cost involved depends upon the length of your trip and which city you are in, but generally a fee of between £1-2 could be expected for a daily ticket. It is usually possible to buy weekly and monthly tickets which are cheaper and a good idea if you use public transport regularly.
There are also some student discount transport allowances, which you can find out about through your university.

If you are living in rental or share accommodation you will be responsible for the gas, electricity, phone and water bills. Once again your university housing office will be able to advise you of the pricing structures for these amenities in the relevant location.
