Accommodation
All universities have an accommodation office, which is dedicated to assisting students find appropriate living arrangements within their budget. The office may also be able to assist you with temporary accommodation while you finalise your permanent living arrangement.
There are a range of accommodation options for students in Australia, including:
University residential colleges - $190-280 per week (£80-115)
University halls of residence - $120-250 per week (£50-105)
Residential colleges and halls of residence are popular choices for many students, from both Australia and abroad. Colleges and halls are great places to meet people from all over the world, and run a range of activities to help students settle in to university life.
Homestay - $110-270 per week (£45-110)
Living with an Australian family is another popular option for many students, as it gives an insight into the Australian lifestyle and is an affordable option.
Boarding hostels - $80-135 per week (£30-55)
Hostels are a good short-term option, but are also considered on a more long-term basis by many students as well.
Share accommodation - $65-120 per week (£25-50) for the room
Sharing with other students is also a popular choice for many students, however in Australia many rental properties are un-furnished and tenants are responsible for paying amenities and signing a lease.
Rental accommodation - $150-350 per week (£60-150) for the premise
you might choose to rent your own house or flat, and there are real-estate agents to help you arrange this.
The above prices are given as a rough guide as there are large variances between different locations. Rental and share accommodation costs in particular can vary considerably depending on the city chosen and other factors such as location, size, condition of premises, and number of residents. In Australia it is not common for furniture to be provided in share and rental accommodation, although good second hand furniture can be easily and cheaply purchased.
